Development of Learning Tools Based on the Outdoor Learning Mathematics Project Model on Social Arithmetic Topics to Improve Students’ Numeracy Skills

Numeracy is one of the essential competencies that students need to solve mathematical problems in real-life situations. However, many junior high school students still experience difficulties in applying mathematical concepts to contextual problems because classroom instruction is predominantly teacher-centered and less connected to authentic learning experiences. Therefore, innovative learning devices integrating the Outdoor Learning Mathematics Project (OLMP) model are needed to promote meaningful learning and improve students’ numeracy skills. This study aimed to develop OLMP-based learning devices on Social Arithmetic material that are valid, practical, and effective in improving junior high school students’ numeracy skills. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the modified Four-D (4D) model consisting of the Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages. The developed products included teaching modules, student worksheets (LKPD), numeracy test instruments, and a teacher guidebook. The subjects consisted of Grade VII students of SMP Argopuro Panti, Jember. Data were collected through expert validation, classroom observations, questionnaires, interviews, and pretest–posttest numeracy tests. Data analysis included validity, practicality, effectiveness, N-Gain, normality, and independent sample t-test analyses. The developed learning devices achieved a validity score above 3.75 (very valid), a practicality level of 96.5%, and positive responses from students (97%). Students’ learning activities reached 92%, while classical numeracy mastery achieved 86%. Furthermore, the independent sample t-test revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (p < 0.05), indicating that the OLMP model significantly improved students’ numeracy skills. The OLMP-based learning devices are valid, practical, and effective for mathematics instruction on Social Arithmetic and significantly enhance junior high school students’ numeracy skills through authentic outdoor learning experiences.

Research Trends in Islamic-Based Mathematics Education: Global Studies and Academic Collaboration Networks

This study analyzes global trends and collaboration in mathematics education research during the 2014–2024 period using a bibliometric approach. The findings indicate a significant increase in the number of publications, peaking in 2020 before stabilizing in recent years. Indonesia and Malaysia have been the primary contributors, with increasing involvement from other countries such as Turkey, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. International collaboration has expanded, marked by a growing academic network and contributions from major institutions such as Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) and Universitas Syiah Kuala. The study also identifies a thematic shift from traditional pedagogical approaches toward integration with STEM, technology, and international assessments such as PISA and TIMSS. Furthermore, the collaborative network among researchers reveals that certain academics, such as S. Huda and M. Broer, have had a significant influence on the research community. These findings underscore the importance of cross-national and interdisciplinary collaboration in driving innovation and enhancing the effectiveness of mathematics education globally. Thus, this research provides valuable insights for academics, policymakers, and education practitioners in developing more inclusive and sustainable strategies for mathematics education research and teaching.

Development of Mathematics Learning Tools Based on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Using the Outdoor Learning Mathematics Method to Enhance Mathematical Connections in Junior High School

This research aims to develop mathematics learning tools based on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) using the Outdoor Learning Mathematics method with the goal of enhancing mathematical connections of junior high school students in statistics. The research method employed is a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods, both conducted through developmental research comprising planning, development, and evaluation stages. The sample for this research was two classes at SMPN 1 Tempeh with homogeneous mathematical abilities, where one class will be used as the experimental group and one class as the control group. Determining the research area using a purposive area sampling technique with the consideration that learning using the outdoor learning mathematics method with educational sustainable development (ESD) based learning tools has never been implemented at SMPN 1 Tempeh. The selection of eighth-grade classes is based on the consideration that statistics material is currently being taught in eighth grade, and eighth-grade students have not been subjects of research for similar studies before.  The learning tools developed are designed in accordance with ESD principles and utilize outdoor mathematics learning approaches to enhance students’ understanding and skills in statistics. The results from Hypothesis Testing for Pretest indicate that a p-value of 0.648 is obtained, where this value > 0.05 means H0 is accepted and H1 is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is no difference in the mean between the control and experimental groups in the pretest. Whereas the result of Posttest Hypothesis Test indicate that a p-value of 0.028 is obtained, where this value < 0.05 means H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. So the use of ESD-based mathematics learning tools with the Outdoor Learning Mathematics method is effective in improving students’ mathematical connections in statistics. The implication of this research underscores the importance of integrating mathematics education with sustainable development principles to reinforce students’ understanding and skills in mathematics while also fostering awareness of environmental and social issues.

Higher Order Thinking Skill of IX Grade Students in Solving Mathematics Problems Based on Bloom’s Taxonomy

The purpose of this study is to describe and find out the high-level thinking skills of IX grade students in solving PISA mathematical problems based on Bloom’s Taxonomy. The subjects in this study were 58 students drawn from several junior high schools and MTs in Banyuwangi district. The instrument used was a PISA test item that was loaded into the Indonesian PISA Center. The sampling technique is purposive random sampling with descriptive qualitative research methods. The data were analyzed using data collection techniques with the method of documentation, tests and interviews. The results of a high-level thinking study of class IX students in solving PISA mathematical problems based on Bloom’s Taxonomy found 1) the existence of subjects with moderate abilities that meet the analysis and evaluation stages and subjects with high abilities that meet the stages of analysis , evaluation and creation, 2) the existence of a hierarchical relationship between the abilities of analysis, evaluation, and creation means students can be said to be highly capable if they can complete and fulfill all three stages in a sequence.
