QREAM: QR-code Emergency Assistant Model

Using a Quick Response (QR) code has been spread over most applications, such as registration, commercial, and verification purposes. Emergency situations need a quick and effective action plan including communication, identification, and full data access to provide urgent assistant. In Saudi Arabia, the Hajj event similar cases might occur. As a result of that, a quick response plan is needed to provide assistant in emergency situations for pilgrims.

The aim of this paper is to introduce and to describe an emergency assistant model based on using QR-Code (QREAM). In addition, this paper will discuss the model design and analyse the results of using the QREAM.

Isolation and Identification of Indigenous Bacteria for the Degradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons Found in Refinery Wastewater

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) degrading bacteria were screened and isolated from contaminated soil taken from Tema Oil Refinery wastewater effluent channels. Refinery wastewater was found to contain a low amount of inhibitory heavy metals but the presence PAHs were detected and identified. The PAH-degrading bacteria isolated and identified were Pseudomonas stutzeri. Acinetobacter junii, Pseudomonas putida and Stetonotrophomonas nititireducens. All four bacteria showed high tolerance to a PAH combination of Naphthalene and Anthracene (1:1) of concentration as high as 5mg/ml. The identification of S. nititreducens as an indigenous bacterium is very significant since it is one of the very few bacteria known to be able to degrade high molecular weight PAHs.

Stature Estimation from Dimension of Hands and Hand Prints in Dehradun Population

Background: Stature estimation by hand dimension is one of the common parameters in anthropometry but using the handprints for the same and its positive correlation with height of the subject, makes it a more useful parameter for identification of suspects who have left hand prints at the crime scene.[1].

Methodology: A cross-sectional study was carried out on 150 (75 males and 75 females) healthy subjects after taking voluntary informed consent. Stature was measured by stadiometer and hand and hand print dimension were measured by vernier caliper. Data was analysed by Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.

Results: All parameter’s measurement were higher in male as compared to female subjects and shown range of weak to strong but positive correlation with height. Maximum positive correlation was observed in total population whereas minimum positive correlation was observed in between left hand breadth and left hand print breadth with height in female subjects. All the parameters were shown statistically significant correlation with height as p value was less than 0.05.

Conclusion: The regression models thus formed is able to predict stature would be beneficial in challenges of identification of humans.
