Intelligence Quotient and Academic Performance of Grade 7 Students: A Correlation Study

Cognitive intelligence, often quantified as intelligence quotient (IQ), encompasses a range of mental capabilities including reasoning, problem-solving, and abstract thinking, which are critical for academic success. This study investigates the intricate relationship between IQ and academic performance, particularly among Grade 7 students in the School Year 2023-2024. Utilizing a quantitative descriptive research design, the study analyzed the academic records and admission test results of 199 students, employing the OLSAT Level F as a standardized measure of cognitive ability. The findings indicate a concerning trend, with a majority of students scoring below average on the OLSAT, highlighting significant areas for academic improvement. Furthermore, a notable correlation was observed between school type, general academic averages, and academic awards with OLSAT scores, suggesting that the educational environment and recognition of achievements significantly influence student performance. Interestingly, no significant differences in academic outcomes based on gender were found, emphasizing the need for equitable educational opportunities. The study recommends targeted interventions to support students struggling academically, focusing on enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Additionally, a comprehensive review of educational policies and practices is necessary to foster a nurturing learning environment for all students. By addressing these areas, educators and policymakers can work towards improving academic outcomes and ensuring that all students reach their full potential.

Selecting Outdoor Wireless Solution for Bara Prima Borneo Using Analytic Hierarchy Process

The advancement of wireless communication technology is critical for improving the efficiency, safety, and productivity of mining operations. This study focuses on evaluating and recommending an optimal outdoor wireless network solution for Bara Prime Borneo (BPB) mining operations in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for decision-making. The current Wi-Fi infrastructure faces significant challenges, including limited coverage, interference, and scalability issues, which hinder its effectiveness in the demanding mining environment.

To address these challenges, the study employs a comprehensive approach to identify stakeholder expectations and value perceptions, explore alternative wireless network designs such as Private LTE and Kinetic Mesh, and systematically select the most suitable solution using AHP. Through discussions with subject matter experts and secondary data collection, the study outlines the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) associated with the existing Wi-Fi network and potential alternatives.

Using AHP, the study prioritizes various criteria such as coverage, reliability, cost, scalability, and security. The recommended design aims to bridge the gap between current capabilities and future needs, ensuring robust and extensive network coverage that supports various digital applications essential for modern mining.

By selecting the proposed solution using AHP, BPB can achieve a more reliable and scalable wireless network, enhancing overall operational efficiency and safety while meeting the evolving demands of its mining operations.

An Assessment of Water Quality and Identification of Problems: A Case Study of Maritimepattu Divisional Secretariat, Northern Province

The Maritimepattu Divisional Secretariat (DS), located in Sri Lanka’s dry zone, is underlain by Miocene limestone, which is considered to have aquifer properties favourable for groundwater storage and discharge. Given that groundwater serves as the primary water resource for domestic, industrial, and agricultural purposes, maintaining its quality is a significant concern. This paper aims to assess the water quality in the region, identify associated problems, and investigate potential causes and preventive measures. A purposive sampling method was employed to select six sample Grama Niladhari (GN) divisions. In addition, 100 questionnaires were administered, and 36 water samples were collected for the study. These water samples were tested based on eight major water quality parameters: Electrical Conductivity (EC), Salinity, pH, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Fluoride (F-), Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P), and Turbidity (Tn). Furthermore, secondary data were gathered from previous literature. Both primary and secondary data were analysed using Minitab and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The measurements were then compared to the desirable limits set by the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI). This study revealed that the highest recorded values for EC, Salinity, pH, TDS, F-, N, P, and Tn were 2480 µS/cm, 1254 ppm, 8.6, 632 ppm, 1.1 ppm, 7,9 ppm, 3.8 ppm, and 36.7 NTU, respectively. These values exceed the standard limits set by the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI). The pollution in the area can be attributed to various factors, including topographical conditions, improper agricultural practices, inadequate sanitation methods, dumping sites, war activities, and industrial waste. As a result, these issues have led to serious health problems, reduced crop yields, insufficient drinking water, and the degradation of groundwater resources. Therefore, this study recommends the adoption of green agriculture practices, the installation of water treatment plants, the promotion of rainwater harvesting systems, and the enforcement of land and irrigation-related laws. Moreover, hazardous waste material must be disposed of at designated sites to protect water resources.

Implementing OKR Framework in Solving Safety Culture and Safety Program Issues to Elevate Safety Performance of PT. X-Y Whilst Preserve The ESG Rating of PT.X

Oil & gas business is still attractive for investors. Today, they look carefully at company’s financial indicators (ROA, ROI, Profitability) and new indicator called “ESG” in making investment decision(Pedersen et al., 2021). PT.X, a developing national energy company with vision becoming world class, currently still rely on fossil energy as the backbone of its business. To finance its operations, PT.X opens up opportunities for investors to invest. To attract investors, PT.X is pursuing better ESG rating each year. In 2023 ESG score of PT. X is 20.7, 1st rank out of 61 O&G companies in the world (Morningstar Sustainalytics version). In competitive energy business post Covid-19 pandemic PT. X aware that they must improve its ESG score continuously. Several strategic goals have been set, one of it is Total Recordable Injury Rate / TRIR, a ratio of number of recordable incidents per total working hours in a year. Target is more challenging each year. TRIR 2024 was set 0.19. This number is much lower than the average TRIR achieved by IOGP members in 2020 that is 0.7. PT. X’s TRIR goal applies to all of its subsidiaries including PT. X-Y located in biggest O&G block East Kalimantan Indonesia. PT. X-Y operates big mature field ultimate with ultimate challenge to maintain oil and gas production from wells that decline naturally. PT. X-Y have planned massive work programs i.e: drilling ± 100 wells/year, ± 4000 wells intervention, and also several offshore platforms construction & installation projects. These activities involve many workers and very high risks. Workers’ safety culture is very important to support the achievement of this goal. Unfortunately, the results of surveys conducted several times by one of reputable university in Indonesia, PT. X-Y safety culture level has decreased from the Proactive to Calculative. To improve PT. X-Y should start by solving organization’s safety cultures’ issues. Also, with limited resources the company’s safety team believed they should focus on improving existing safety program called “TEMAN” rather than introducing new ones. OKR framework is used to manage these difficult objectives because it has superior principles and similarity with PT.X core value AKHLAK, i.e: align and connect team work, focus and commit to priorities, track for accountability. OKR method is successful helping big companies such as Intel, Google, IBM to achieve their stretch goals with minimal side effects / no side effects at all.
