EFL Teachers’ Beliefs and Practice of Code-Switching: A Case Study at Ba Ria – Vungtau University

This paper presents the practice, including the forms and functions, and beliefs of code-switching practiced by EFL teachers in classroom instruction in the context of a university in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. Three instruments will be employed in this research including classroom observation, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews with the participation of 9 EFL teachers and 59 students. The aims of this research are to (1) investigate the functions and forms of code-switching that teachers employed in their classrooms; (2) investigate how teacher’s beliefs and attitudes toward employing code-switching; (3) research for the similarities, and differences between teacher’s opinion and their actual practice of code-switching in 9 EFL classrooms from a case study at Ba Ria – Vung Tau University (BVU).

Bibliometric Analysis: Research Trends in Creative Thinking Behavior in Learning

The ability to think outside the box, create something that has never existed before, and apply knowledge and skills creatively and inventively. Effective learning activities require a balance between several aspects, namely cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. Creative thinking behavior is a manifestation of creativity, and creativity refers to the ability to generate new, unique ideas. Related to the importance of behavior on creative thinking, it is necessary to analyze the extent of the development of research on creative thinking behavior. Bibliometric analysis using Publish of Perish (PoP) and VOSviewer for the last 10 years (2014-2023) keyword “creative thinking behavior. The analysis took from the google scholar and scopus databases. Bibliometric analysis is a technique that is realized in 2 categories, namely performance analysis and science mapping. The results of the analysis are stored in a small database used in this study. Since this research only uses Google Scholar and Scopus databases, the research methodology of thinking behavior is also limited. The research results can be expanded by using alternative databases and keyword searches. This study may be useful for future researchers who want to investigate creative thinking behavior.

Measuring the Critical Success Factor of Safety Program in Drilling and Well Intervention Operation at PT. MHK, Ltd.

The drilling and well intervention division implements various safety initiatives to prevent incidents. Despite its multiple activities, an assessment has yet to be conducted to determine the program’s efficacy. This paper aims to determine the elements that impact the effectiveness of safety program execution in drilling and well intervention operations in MHK, Ltd. The Author conducted measurements utilizing variables related to the critical success factor of the safety program, as outlined in the cross-reference research article. Subsequently, the author introduces a system of incentives in variables quantified as a novelty of this research based on input from subject matter experts. By understanding the variables that influence the efficacy of the safety campaign, the safety campaign initiatives will be more focused on mitigating accidents within the drilling and well intervention divisions. The research was conducted utilizing a quantitative approach, where data was gathered through a questionnaire that employed a Likert scale. The population comprises individuals employed in the Drilling and Well Intervention roles at many locations, including the site, field, barge, rig, and town. The data is further analyzed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) technique, employing the smartPLS4 software. The study findings indicated that three out of five variables examined had a favorable and significant impact on the efficacy of the safety program at DWI MHK, Ltd.: management commitment, reward and punishment, and safety arrangement. We propose strengthening identified elements and addressing weaknesses, including utilizing digitalization and artificial intelligence for safety monitoring.

 

Enhancing Customer Service in Banking with AI: Intent Classification Using Distilbert

With the increasing demand for efficient and responsive customer service in the banking sector, artificial intelligence offers a promising solution. This paper presents a comparative analysis of artificial intelligence methodologies applied to intent classification within the banking sector customer service domain. Utilizing a comprehensive dataset of banking service inquiries, we evaluate several machine learning approaches, including Naive Bayes, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine with Linear Kernel, Random Forest, XGBoost, and the transformer-based DistilBERT model. The models are assessed based on their accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score metrics. Our findings indicate that DistilBERT, with its distilled architecture, not only outstrips traditional models but also demonstrates exceptional performance with an accuracy and F1 score exceeding 92%. The paper delves into the advantages of employing such an efficient and powerful model in real-time customer service settings, suggesting that DistilBERT offers a substantial enhancement over conventional methods. By providing detailed insights into the model’s capabilities, we underscore the transformative impact of employing advanced AI in the financial industry to elevate customer service standards, streamline operational efficiency, and harness the power of state-of-the-art technology for improved client interactions. The results showcased in this study are indicative of the strides being made in AI applications for financial services and set a benchmark for future exploratory and practical endeavors in the field.

Assessing AI Adoption: Investigating Variances in AI Utilization across Student Year Levels in Far Eastern University-Manila, Philippines

This study investigates the prevalent use of artificial intelligence (AI) among college students at Far Eastern University. Despite the risks, it aims to understand the primary reason behind the continuous use of AI. According to academics, the benefits of implementing AI in higher education include better inclusion, increased efficiency in administrative costs, and improvements in the learning-teaching process (Pisica et al., 2023). However, the extreme utilization of AI among students has led to cheating and plagiarism for many reasons that impact their personal lives and mental health. The researcher identified potential gaps while assessing possible solutions to lessen the student using Artificial Intelligence (AI) excessively. Moreover, the researcher used a quantitative method analysis involving 40 college students from 1st-year level to 4th-year level to explore the impacts of Artificial Intelligence on their academic tasks and learning styles. Thus, examining the utilization of AI from different year levels of Far Eastern University college students revealed that the researcher provides valuable insights into addressing the challenges posed by excessive dependency on AI while maintaining academic integrity and the need for the students to develop their critical thinking skills. After the researcher analyzed the collected data, it showed that the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for academic workloads varies among participants covering different college students, showing that first-year students rely on AI due to peer pressure. In contrast, the second-year students use it to improve their academic standing. Third-year students depend on AI because of time constraints, while fourth-year students use AI to minimize the possibility of human errors. The study conveys no significant differences in the probability of using AI for academic purposes, and it does not prevent the students from using AI regardless of their year level. Therefore, the researcher recommends proposing stricter AI checkers and educating the students on responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) usage to mitigate academic misconduct.

 

Influence of Purchase Decision for An Advanced Production Digital Platform Adoption Process in The Coal Industry: The Investigation Using Pls-Sem Analysis

In 2022, the coal-producing sector faced unusual difficulties, which were paralleled by a significant rise in global pricing. The business is too complex for the the most advanced technologies, especially when it comes to figuring out the best blend scenarios. This calls for a comprehensive approach that combines modern technology with careful consideration to support companies in surviving in a competitive and unpredictable commercial environment. Over the past few years, industries have been seeking technological advancement in an effort to improve operating procedures and efficiency, but these innovations still face challenges in being broadly accepted and adopted. In order to determine the primary characteristics that most significantly promote technology adoption, this study combines the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) with purchasing decision theory. The main tool used to collect data is structured questionnaires, which are given to respondents who fulfill predetermined requirements. The replies are gathered, and the SmartPLS 4.0.9.9 software is used to handle them.  According to the study, behavioral intention and behavior manner use are not significantly mediated by unanticipated situational events or other people’s attitudes that align with purchase decision theory. Additionally, users’ use of behavior to adopt digital production platforms in the coal mine business is positively impacted by behavioral intention. Policymakers could consider encouraging all staff members on a regular basis to help them develop a positive mindset, which will enhance their usage behavior.

 

The Influence of Company Size, Board of Directors and Leverage on Sustainability Report Disclosure with Profitability as a Moderation Variable in LQ45 Companies Listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange

This research aims to analyze the influence of company size, board of directors and leverage on sustainability report disclosure with profitability as a moderating variable in LQ45 companies on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. This research is quantitative research with a causal nature and data collection techniques obtained through the annual reports of LQ45 companies listed on the IDX for the 2018-2022 period. The population in this research is the LQ45 companies on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), totaling 21 companies. The sampling technique in this research is the purposive sampling method. The analysis technique used is multiple linear regression analysis and moderated regression analysis. The research results show that company size has no effect on sustainability report disclosure. The board of directors has a positive and significant influence on sustainability report disclosure. Leverage has a positive and significant effect on sustainability report disclosure. Profitability is not able to moderate the influence of company size on sustainability report disclosure. Profitability is able to moderate the influence of the board of directors on sustainability report disclosure. Profitability is able to moderate the influence of leverage on sustainability report disclosure.

Challenging the Societal Stigma Surrounding Body Dysmorphia in the Philippines: Bridging the Gap of Misconceptions

Body Dysmorphic Disorder is a mental health disorder that adversely affects how people perceive their physique and self-concept. The study focuses on a thorough investigation of the pervasive societal stigma surrounding Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) in the Philippines. Moreover, it expounds on the related literature and studies to elucidate the profound impact of the stigma on individuals with the disorder.   Patients with the disorder often experience unrestrained and excessive repetitive behavior, such as criticizing one’s physical flaws, people-pleasing, and overly obsessing about self-grooming practices (Body Dysmorphic Disorder, n.d.). Utilizing the integrative review for the methodology, the paper examines relevant and significant literature from electronic databases to further develop vital information and analyses for challenging social stigmas related to body dysmorphia in the Philippines. The study reviews the existing literature to recognize social perceptions and stereotypes of body dysmorphia in the Philippines, exploring cultural, social, and historical elements that contribute to the stigma. It identifies interventions intended to challenge societal stigma. Local and international sources were used to examine the effectiveness of existing approaches in addressing BDD and its societal stigma. It further explores the effectiveness of community-based education programs, media literacy campaigns, and mental health awareness programs in challenging misconceptions and promoting acceptance of people facing BDD. The research aims to identify the societal stigma associated with BDD or Body Dysmorphic Disorder in the Philippines, which negatively affects the mental and emotional well-being of individuals facing the disorder, further bridging the gap of misconceptions.

Unraveling the Dynamics of Social Media Engagement and Activism among Far Eastern University Students: A Demographic and Attitudinal Analysis

As multiple generations continue to engage in social media and activists, the researchers saw this as an opportunity to influence change. This study explored how technology, particularly social media platforms, helps shape activism among Far Eastern University students, containing 80 participants from various academic years. Through analysis of the engagement, the study intended to understand which social media platforms are the most and least effective for promoting social change. The researchers used a quantitative approach with survey questionnaires, exploring the students’ views about social media activism. Integrating data analysis that includes descriptive and inferential statistics provides valuable insights for activists, policymakers, and educators navigating the dynamic realm of social media activism. Eventually, the data shows Instagram is the most popular site for social media activity at Far Eastern University, with Threads receiving the least attention. Students mostly utilize social media for communication, information searching, and self-expression, motivated by socio-political interests and a desire to belong. The study emphasizes the strong link between social media use and online activist activity, implying a transformative effect. Future studies should broaden demographics and use mixed-methods approaches, focusing on capacity-building activities for student activists focused on social media advocacy to achieve positive societal change.
