A Study on Effects of Anthropological Noise on Marine Life

Out of all type of pollutions that exist, noise is considered as the most annoying one. Ambient noise has increasingly posed a problem to marine beings over the decades. Modern day humans have infested oceans with noise pollution. Noise can easily blanket a vast area below the surface of water and have underlying effects as a result. Whales and a few other cetacean species use a combination of sounds to create vocalizations. The use of SONAR and seismic guns underwater has caused a major hearing loss issue in cetaceans and altered their unique calls. Invertebrates; that consist of gastropods, annelids, cephalopods, etc.; too are affected by deep sea noise. Marine animals have found it difficult to sense their prey or predator, communicate with their species or even navigate through the oceans due to deep sea noise. The alienating noise creates a bubble around the ecosystem it travels through causing the habitants to experience a sudden parasympathetic surge and force them to flee.

 

A Literary Review of Pattern Matching Techniques in Network Intrusion Detection

With the exponential growth in devices and services being added to networks, we are also witnessing an increase in the volume and complexity of threats, urging an increased efficiency in network intrusion detection systems which primarily rely on pattern matching to identify malicious activity on the network. In this literary review of pattern matching techniques in network intrusion detection, we explore the limitations and the research carried out in both signature-based and anomaly-based intrusion detection systems to overcome them. It focuses on the performance improvements in signature-based intrusion detection systems achieved through methodologies and technologies like regular expressions, Hyperscan, RE2, Flashtext, a generalized Aho-Corasick algorithm, usage of Bloom filters and payload sampling. It also covers the usage of machine learning techniques, including genetic algorithms, Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Improved Self-Adaptive Bayesian Algorithm (ISABA), which are used to detect anomalous behavior and identify potential threats in a network in anomaly-based network intrusion detection to assist the security analysts carry out their job functions. Additionally, this review explores the integration of the MITRE ATT&CK framework and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems in network intrusion detection as this framework provides a structured and standardized approach for analyzing the tactics and techniques used by attackers to classify them, while SIEM systems enable the correlation of threat activity across multiple sources, allowing for a more comprehensive and accurate view of the network security. Overall, this literary review provides insights into the state-of-the-art techniques and frameworks used in Network Intrusion Detection based on Pattern Matching, highlighting the significant improvements in performance and detection capabilities.

Perceptive Influence of Purchasing Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy from Non-regulated Firms on the Performance of Insurance Industry in Nigeria: A Customer-Based Sentiment Analysis

This study examined Customers’ perception on the influence of purchasing motor vehicle insurance policy from non-regulated firms on the performance of insurance industry in Nigeria. Specifically, the influence of purchasing fake insurance policy and non-renewal of expired policy bought from the regulated insurance firms on the performance of insurance industry in Nigeria were accessed.  Primary data collected through the use of structured questionnaire from 92 vehicle owners in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, that were selected through convenience sampling technique, was used in the study. Sentiment analysis was applied as the method of data analysis in the study. The result of the analysis indicated a neutral sentiment level of the respondents to both the influence of purchasing fake motor vehicle insurance policy and impact of non-renewal of expired motor vehicle insurance policy bought from regulated insurance firms on the performance of insurance industry in Nigeria. These findings implied a neutral perception of the effect of purchasing motor vehicle insurance policy from non-regulated insurance firms on the performance of insurance industry in Nigeria by the motor vehicle owners. The neutral perception found explains the below expectation performance of the insurance industry in Nigeria due to poor patronage. To enhance public perception in the insurance industry in Nigeria, targeted product features and benefits awareness campaigns as well as payment of genuine claims to deepen public trust in the industry were recommended.

First report of Pink Disease of Ficus benghalensis L. caused by Erythricium salmonicolor (Berk. & Broome) Burds. (Corticiaceae) from India.

Erythricium salmonicolor (Berk. & Broome) Burds. causes a canker and die-back disease, commonly known as pink disease,  on  many  tree  species.  During the field survey, typical symptoms of pink disease were observed on the dead branches of Ficus benghalensis L. trees. The pathogen isolated from host tree and identified as Erythricium salmonicolor (Berk. & Broome) Burds. was confirmed on the basis of macro-micro morphological analysis. To our knowledge, this is First report of Pink Disease of Ficus benghalensis L. caused by Erythricium salmonicolor (Berk. & Broome) Burds. from India.

Effect of Turmeric Herbal on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Systematic Review

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder that is increasingly affecting women in the reproductive age group. Women commonly experience menstrual irregularities, hirsutism, weight gain, and acne, as well as the development of a complex endocrine disorder that presents with oligomenorrhea, hyperandrogenism, and polycystic ovaries. Herbal medicine is a complex intervention with the potential for synergistic and antagonistic interactions between compounds. These drugs are essential for the treatment of PCOS and have fewer side effects compared to allopathic drugs. One of the herbal medicines to treat PCOS is turmeric or curcumin, curcumin has various biological activities including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-tumor, cardioprotective and neuroprotective effects involving various mechanisms. Curcumin can stimulate insulin-mediated glucose uptake via the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinsase (PI3K)/Akt pathway, which, in turn, upregulates glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) in adipocytes and skeletal muscle, leading to increased glucose levels. Curcumin supplementation improves glycemic control and lipid metabolism, and reduces oxygen radical species in PCOS patients. Curcumin is a diarylheptanoid derived from the rhizome of the Curcuma longa plant, which functions as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant which is very important in the treatment of PCOS. In addition, nearly half of patients with PCOS develop metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance, and are associated with a much higher risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

The Influence of Budget Participation, Information Asymmetry, and Budget Emphasis on Budgetary Slack in Aceh Government

This study aims to examine the effect of budgetary participation, information asymmetry, and budget emphasis on budgetary slack in the SKPA Aceh Government. The population of this research is all State Civil Servants (ASN) in SKPA Aceh Government. The research sample used was 129 people selected by purposive sampling method, consisting of Heads of SKPA, Secretaries, and Heads of Planning and Reporting Subdivision in 43 SKPA. This research is a quantitative research, the data used is in the form of primary data obtained from distributing questionnaires to research respondents. The data analysis technique uses multiple linear regression analysis with the help of the IBM SPSS 26 program. The regression results for the partial test show that budget participation, information asymmetry, and budget emphasis have a positive and significant effect on budgetary slack in the Aceh Government SKPA.

Shortcomings And Their Solutions in the Lesson Automation Schedule of Higher Military Educational Institutions

We know that all our hands still do that in the old system, Besides taking up the time of officers and workers, the lesson schedule created by this manual system also means that they have to work in the evenings outside of work without enough time because of the work in the department and the tasks assigned by the superiors. In the age of 21st century “Information technologies” in which we live, in order to abandon this system, we can set up the automation of the lesson schedule and, making our work much easier, it will be possible to devote time to other tasks. Therefore, I believe it is necessary to develop a system for automating the lesson schedule in higher military educational institutions using modern programming languages.

Associations between Duration and Type of Electronic Device Use and Sleep Quality among Bangkok’s High School Students

High school students are increasingly relying on electronic devices for academics, leisure, and social interactions. Concerns have emerged regarding the impact of extensive device use on adolescent sleep quality, critical for well-being during this transformative phase. Past studies suggest that being exposed to prolonged screen time can disrupt sleeping patterns; interestingly, it can vary based on the device type or screen size as well as gender of users. Therefore, we conducted a study to examine the relationship between electronic devices used before bedtime and sleep quality among high school students in Bangkok, while considering device type, screen size, and gender as crucial variables. Our findings reveal a relationship between electronic device use before bed (p=0.008), and gender (p=<0.001) are associated significantly with sleep quality. Notably, we observed that prolonged screen time, particularly on larger screens like laptops (p=0.049), is associated with more disruptions in sleep patterns. Moreover, the duration of electronic devices usage before bed and gender has distinct and notable effects on sleep quality. However, high school students in Bangkok may have unique lifestyles that can significantly impact how electronic devices are integrated into daily routines, potentially exacerbating sleep disruptions. Therefore, further research is required to seek other causes affecting sleep quality. This could be useful in promoting h.

Characteristics of Biodegradable Film as Food Product Packaging Based on Casein, Chitosan and Gelatin

The purpose of this study was to determine the best level of gelatin addition in the manufacture of edible film. The materials used were casein hydrolyzate, chitosan with different percentage of gelatin. This research method is a complete randomized laboratory experimental design with four replications and five treatments including without gelatin and with gelatin 0.25%, 0.5%, 1% and 1.5%. Variables included solubility, swelling, moisture content, water vapor permeability, water vapor transmission rate, thickness, tensile strength and scanning electron microscopy. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance and followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. The results showed that there were significant differences (P<0.05) in solubility and water vapor permeability. There were very significant differences (P<0.01) in swelling, water content, water vapor transmission rate, thickness and tensile strength. SEM testing resulted in a smooth surface structure. The conclusion of this study is the best result with the addition of 0.25% gelatin.

The Effect of Slow Deep Breathing Exercise on the Blood Pressure of Elderly People with Hypertension at the Working Area of the Public Health Centre Air Tawar Padang

Hypertension is often found in elderly, it is a major factor causing stroke and heart disease. The number of people with hypertension continues to increase every year, it is estimated that by 2025 there will be 1.5 million people affected by hypertension in the world. The purpose of study was to determine the effect of slow deep breathing exercise on changes in blood pressure in the elderly in Public Health Center Air Tawar. This researchis a Quation Experiment with one group pre-post design. The research was conducted in Public Health Center Air Tawar, Padang from January to June 2022. The population were 80 erderly with hypertension,with a sample of 20 people obtained from the slovin formula. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test with Signed Rank Test. The type of data wasseondary obtained from the Air Tawar Public Health Center and Primary from questionnaires. The results showed that the average of systolic blood pressure before intervention was 149/100 mmHg. The average after the intervention decreased to 140/92mmHg. The effect of the slow deep breathing exercise was proven by the significant value of blood pressure before intervention and after intervention was 0.001. The conclusion shown, there was a significant influence of slow deep breathing exercise on changes in blood pressure of the elderly. The changes in blood pressure obtained were still in the category of hypertension, it is hoped that respondents willconsume low-salt diet, drug consumption and utilizing the services of health workers can make slow deep breathing exercise as one of the blood pressure control techniques.
