The Correlation between the Awareness of the Dangers in Smartphone Radiation and Sleep Quality among High School Students in Thailand

Despite smartphones’ critical benefits in several aspects of living in this generation, their emissions of radiation exert profound effects on the physical health of the affected individuals, including heightened risks of cancer as well as increased fibroblast activity of the skin. The aim of this study endeavors to determine the correlation between awareness of the dangers in utilizing smartphones before bed and sleep quality among high school students, to raise consciousness of the perils of smartphone radiation, and to observe sleep qualities among high school students. Through previous research, it was hypothesized that awareness of the dangers in smartphone radiation would negatively impact the sleep quality of the participants due to the negative ramifications of the radiation. To verify whether this also implies an impact on the Thai population, data were collected using a cross-sectional method with random samples of both Thai and international high school students. The information was later analyzed via Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS). The results indicate a robust correlation between dangers in smartphone’s radiation and sleep quality (p = 0.451**), grade and sleep quality (p = 0.003*), and age and sleep quality (p = 0.002*). Moreover, a strong correlation between grade and sleep quality, as well as age and sleep quality, can be inferred that grade and age correlate with the amount of stress within individuals, having a negative effect on individuals’ sleep quality. Ultimately, this research not only analyzes the correlation in the findings but also aims to raise awareness of potential hazards in smartphone radiation among high school students to enhance their sleep quality.

Associations between Duration and Type of Electronic Device Use and Sleep Quality among Bangkok’s High School Students

High school students are increasingly relying on electronic devices for academics, leisure, and social interactions. Concerns have emerged regarding the impact of extensive device use on adolescent sleep quality, critical for well-being during this transformative phase. Past studies suggest that being exposed to prolonged screen time can disrupt sleeping patterns; interestingly, it can vary based on the device type or screen size as well as gender of users. Therefore, we conducted a study to examine the relationship between electronic devices used before bedtime and sleep quality among high school students in Bangkok, while considering device type, screen size, and gender as crucial variables. Our findings reveal a relationship between electronic device use before bed (p=0.008), and gender (p=<0.001) are associated significantly with sleep quality. Notably, we observed that prolonged screen time, particularly on larger screens like laptops (p=0.049), is associated with more disruptions in sleep patterns. Moreover, the duration of electronic devices usage before bed and gender has distinct and notable effects on sleep quality. However, high school students in Bangkok may have unique lifestyles that can significantly impact how electronic devices are integrated into daily routines, potentially exacerbating sleep disruptions. Therefore, further research is required to seek other causes affecting sleep quality. This could be useful in promoting h.

The Relationship between Stress and the Number of Hours That Students in Bangkok Spend Traveling to and Back from School

People living in Thailand spend approximately 2 hours traveling every day due to traffic jams and long distances from their home to the destination.[1] The problem is also faced by Thai adolescents, particularly high school students, who are susceptible to experience stress due to traveling to and from school. Thus, this study analyzes the relationship between stress and the number of hours high school students in Bangkok spend commuting to and from school by conducting survey research. The survey was conducted using online questionnaires given out to Thai high school students in Bangkok, where a total of 273 responses were collected and analyzed using Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS). The result shows that commute time, leisure, and the change of transportation types are significantly related to stress with the p values of 0.27, 0.005, and 0.045, respectively. This indicates that stress increases in high school students are due to long commute times greater than 2 hours, less leisure time less than 3 hours, and transportation. Nonetheless, there is no considerable relationship between students’ grades and stress. Thus, travel time can influence teenagers’ stress levels, so children may consider studying near their home to prevent themselves from being stressed.

A Study on the Effect of Participating in Tutorial Courses on Happiness During the Summer Break of Thai High School Students in Bangkok

During the semester break of high school years, one of the most common activities of students is taking tutorial courses, as most students consider this interval to be the preparation time for entering their dream school. The attitude of each student toward tutorial courses is very different; some are very happy to attend, while others are not happy at all. Happiness plays an essential role in high school students’ lives during the summer break since happiness helps students relax and also increases their productivity. Thus, we are curious about the effect of tutorial courses on the happiness of Thai high school students in Bangkok. In order to determine the correlation between these two factors, we decided to conduct a cross-sectional survey. The data was collected by sending questionnaires about the effect of participation in tutorial courses on happiness to students in various high schools in Bangkok. We received a total of 324 respondents, who are from various types of high schools, including public, private, international, and home schools. Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) was used for data analysis. The results show no significant relationship between tutorial courses and happiness, which include: 1) the number of tutoring hours taken per day (P-value = 0.342), 2) the duration of the semester breaks (P-value = 0.727), 3) the number of days to take tutorial courses in a week (P-value = 0.319), and 4) the type of tutorial courses taken (P-value = 0.221). This research has most of the respondents studying in public schools and studying in grade 12, so this might be the reason that extra tutorial classes do not affect happiness. This research helps us understand whether there is a relationship between happiness and taking tutorial courses during summer break, and also provides us with information for further research.

Environmental Awareness and the Use of Disposable Plastic

Disposable plastic pollution has become one of the biggest environmental issues. It is evident that single-use plastic products are cheap, versatile, lightweight, resistant, easily available everywhere, which has made them very popular among people around the globe.

However, in many countries, single-use plastic shopping bags are the main source of rubbish, causing pollution impacting the environment and biodiversity. Although a lot of people understand harmful effects of plastic pollution, most people still keep using single-use plastic products. Due to these problems, our study aims to 1) understand the relationship between awareness about plastic pollution and the use of disposable plastic products, 2) explore students’ behaviors, knowledge, and awareness in reducing global warming caused by the overuse of plastic products, 3) observe the students’ attitude toward the impacts of disposable plastic pollution, and 4) raise participants’ awareness about environmental issues among a group of Thai high school students. Data were collected using a questionnaire asking about participants’ global warming knowledge, behaviors, and opinions about plastic usage. Survey samples, including Triamudomsuksanomklao students, were randomly selected through a random sampling method with a total of 307 students (100 males, 182 females, and 25 others). The majority of participants understood how harmful plastic pollution is to the environment. Our results revealed that participants’ knowledge and awareness were at high levels. Nevertheless, statistical analyses showed that there is a significant correlation between the level of awareness about plastic pollution and behavioral change, i.e. trying to avoid and reduce the use of one-time plastic bags or stop using plastic straws.
