Abstract :

Exclusive breastfeeding refers to providing infants with breast milk exclusively for the first six months, without any additional food or fluids, aside from authorized vitamins and medications. It is a natural process that significantly impacts the health of the baby, mother, and family. However, many mothers face challenges in successfully breastfeeding or often stop early, particularly working mothers. This study aimed to explore the breastfeeding experiences of working mothers. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research involved eight participants who are working mothers with babies aged 3-6 months, selected through purposive sampling. Data analysis was conducted using Colaizzi’s method and NVIVO software. The findings revealed six key categories: the process of pregnancy and childbirth, self-confidence, breastfeeding challenges, strategies to overcome these challenges, sources of breastfeeding support, and emotional experiences during breastfeeding. The study highlights the crucial need for support from family, the workplace (including colleagues, supervisors, and available facilities) to enhance the success of exclusive breastfeeding among working mothers.
